LIB DEMS are urging a move that would bring the rubbish thrown away daily on Fareham's streets, open spaces and transport hubs into the town's recycling effort.

At the October council meeting, Jim Forrest put forward the following motion:
“Fareham Borough Council undertakes to trial the use of segmented litter bins in town centre and suburban shopping areas, to enable separation of types of waste to maximise recycling opportunities.
The council will encourage bus and rail companies to do likewise at their stations and waiting areas.”

Jim Forrest says: "This move would enable our Streetscene team, and others involved in litter collection, to sort out recyclable items easily and thus help meet the tough targets we have been set for recycling.

"And we believe it would help combat the problem of litter, by encouraging people to think of leftover packaging etc as an asset to be stored in an appropriate bin, rather than a nuisance to be chucked away for others to deal with."
