Bus service changes hit pensioners |

LIBERAL Democrats have condemned cuts in services across Fareham by the First bus company. Three commercial routes are to be withdrawn and replaced either by rerouted existing services or tendered services. They comprise services from Fareham to Southampton via Locks Heath, a service through north Fareham and the service to the now-closed Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport. Councillor Peter Davies, Fareham Liberal Democrats' spokesman on public transport, said it would mean a significant reduction to routes that pensioners use. 'In the northern part of my ward around the Hilson estate, for example, there will no longer be a bus to the shops or the health centre. You have immediately got a group of older people who can't get to those facilities,' he said. 'And if they want to go to Titchfield or in that direction, there will no longer be any services – they'll have to go in the opposite direction back into the town centre first. 'People all over Fareham are losing out.'
