PARKING - STICK TO THE BAYS

While markings on the Community Centre car park are much clearer after the resurfacing, some drivers have been confused by the removal of the yellow lines near the tennis court, and believed parking was now permitted there.

It is not - parking is allowed only in the marked bays, as indicated on the sign at the car park entrance.

The council's Parking and Enforcement Manager has given me this explanation for the removal of the yellow lines:

"The Yellow lines were not replaced after resurfacing as they serve no purpose within a car park and are not enforceable by my Civil Enforcement Officers. Whenever a PCN was served in this car park when people parked on the yellow lines it was for the offence of being out of bay and no other offence. The yellow lines became an increasing issue for Disabled drivers thinking they could park there with use of the Blue Badge."

He adds that officers would not serve a ticket on anyone who was dropping off bottles etc at the recycling site.
