Museum access restricted

Katrina Trott, Fareham's Lib Dem council group leader, is pressing for solutions to a problem which is stopping disabled people from reaching the upper floor of the museum at Westbury Manor.

The lift has been out of action for some time, and Fareham Council’s Property Services Team are liaising with the lift contractor, Temple Lifts to try to arrange a repair.

But this is proving difficult because of the age of the lift and difficulty obtaining spare parts.

And there may still be a problem after repairs are carried out. Hampshire Cultural Trust, who run the museum, will need to have adequate staff trained in Evac chair and lift release, so that if the lift broke again, any customers in the lift could be safely released or in the event of a fire could be promptly brought down from the first floor via the stairs using the Evac chair.

Council staff have undertaken to let Katrina know when the lift is operational again, and we'll pass that informatin on when we get it.
